Marlene Hidalgo is best known as the first female co-host of the long-running American television program, "Star Gazers."
Marlene Hidalgo was first introduced to astronomy by her grandfather, Octavio Hidalgo, who purchased a telescope for her when she was only ten years old. During adulthood, Marlene was a member of the Southern Cross Astronomical Society and the South Florida Associations of Amateur Astronomers.
Marlene Hidalgo graduated from St. Brendan High School in Miami, Florida. She went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in sociology and anthropology from Florida International University, and a Master of Science degree in exceptional student education from Nova Southeastern University. Marlene spent more than a decade working as a science teacher for students with learning disabilities. Ms. Hidalgo focused on physical science, environmental science, and mathematics while working as a teacher at St. Brendan High School in Miami, Florida.
During her time as a member of MiSci Moms (a group of mothers associated with the Miami Museum of Science), Marlene Hidalgo made the decision to audition for the role of co-host of "Star Gazers." In July of 2011, Marlene was selected to become the third permanent co-host of the television program. She first appeared on "Star Gazers" in October 2011 and continued to co-host the show until March 2014.
