Jake Mercier

Biography

Jake is an award-winning student filmmaker in Dallas, Texas. His love for film started at a young age. This love took him to California with New York Film Academy for a summer filmmaking camp at Universal Studios. He's also attended workshops and classes at The Movie Institute and Media Tech in Dallas. Jake's freelance work includes credits as a press videographer for stars of the Academy Award nominated movie "The Book Thief," the director of two documentaries for Highland Park School District (2014), and a documentary for Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity (2015). Furthermore, he as also worked as a key grip, assistant director, editor and writer on other film sets in Dallas with The Movie Institute, including a short film he directed entitled 'Looking for Emily' (2014). He just completed his narrative short film 'Defiance' that was released in late 2014 as well. The film won the Platinum Short Film award at the Oregon International Film Festival as well as 5 additional awards at the 2014 indieFEST. It will show at the 2015 Bare Bones Film and Music Festival on April 10, and is nominated for two awards including 'Best Student Film - Drama' and 'Best Director'. He is now working on an untitled narrative film set to be released in late 2015 as well as developing an untitled documentary about Sarcoma Cancer that is set to be released in early 2016. Aside from making films, he has also taught and co-founded a summer filmmaking course for kids (DFW Film Camp) sponsored and held by Highland Park ISD HPMS (2014). He is also the CMO (chief media officer) of GigaVista, a locally student run company for website design and advertising.
