Joshua is from the North West of England, in a sunny seaside town called Southport, close to Liverpool. Since being introduced to the industry at age 17, Joshua started in front of the camera. However, it wasn't long before the creative control beckoned from behind the camera. Studying Media Film and Television at university in Liverpool (Edge Hill), Joshua would always proactively search out work and opportunities to practice his craft. Joshua partnered with Mark Ashton at the Artz Centre in Skelmersdale, teaching the students photography and film. This partnership led to the production of three awareness films, funded by the North West police and crime commissioner, as well as Addaction (the UK's leading drug awareness group), and supported by schools in the North West, Joshua's home.
Joshua shot and directed: Crossing The Line, Chantelle's story (a full-length documentary) and Captured. All of which are still being used as tools of education and awareness within schools and shelters today.
Alongside this journey, Joshua was getting more experience in the world of television (soaps and dramas), short films and micro-budget features. With an ability to know his way around a camera and the drive to succeed, Joshua DP'd his first feature Once A Year On Blackpool Sands. It was at this point Joshua turned his attention back to directing, knowing a lot about each department on and off set, it was time to learn more and become an assistant director.
Last year (2021) Joshua successfully 1st AD'd for Dark Matter Studios on both of their half a million each production's: Forever Now and Young Gun.
Since the success of both features, work as a 1st AD came in regularly and it was on the set of Thirteen Car's, that Joshua was offered the opportunity by the director Robert Woods, to step up and be the second unit director.
This opportunity has led to Joshua founding his own production company with Canadian partner and producer Stewart Montgomery-Groves entitled The Firm Productions, in which the company has a catalogue of scripts and pitch decks generated and awaiting the green light from investors.
