Biography

Mandon Lovett is an American filmmaker born in Los Angeles, California and raised in Alexandria, Virginia. After graduating from Union College (NY) in 2005, Lovett worked as a paralegal at the Manhattan (NYC) District Attorney's Office and Dickstein Shapiro LLP before enrolling in law school at St. Thomas University in Miami, Florida. In 2009, during a summer study abroad in Madrid, Spain, he began creating video shorts documenting his experience overseas. He immediately fell in love with film. Upon returning to campus, in the fall of 2009, he purchased an entry-level DSLR camera and began documenting the local arts scene in Miami. In 2011, Lovett graduated from law school but, instead of pursuing a legal career, dove head-first into the world of film. Next, came music videos for the likes of Rick Ross, Diddy, Big Sean, and commercials for W Hotels and Carnival Cruise Lines. He eventually struck up a friendship with the late founder of Worldstar Hip Hop, Lee "Q" O'Denat. His working relationship and friendship with O'Denat marked a noted shift in Lovett's career as a filmmaker, as O'Denat supported and funded Lovett's earliest narrative work, including the acclaimed web documentaries, "The Field: Chicago: Violence, Hip-Hop and Hope" and "The Field: Miami." In 2014, Lovett moved back to Los Angeles, California to further pursue his career in film. That summer, he took on the role of Field Producer in the Features Department at the NFL Network in Culver City, California. There, he produce player interest stories for the Network's weekly GameDay Morning show. In November of 2017, the STARZ network announced it was adding unscripted programming to its larger portfolio of STARZ Originals by greenlighting a new docuseries that explores the legacy of hip-hop music on American culture. Lovett is set to direct the series - "The Field" - which begins production in January of 2018.
