Layn Chess broke into the fitness industry in 2006. After spending several years training himself and assisting friends in their fitness goals, he took his passion for fitness to a professional level in 2009. He obtained his NASM certification and worked in several Houston area gyms as a personal trainer. In only a few short years he's gone from being an independent trainer to being co-owner of a 20,000 square foot facility, Studio Fitness in the Heights.
At Studio Fitness he splits his time running the facility while still making time to work with his clients. His training style combines high-intensity aerobics with resistance training to help clients achieve complete and overall health and wellness. Layn has also trained and competed in various sports with the motto "You learn best by doing." He wanted to understand bodybuilding and nutrition, so he entered the Fitness Texas 2011 tour bodybuilding competition where he placed 3rd. He wanted to learn about endurance next, so he trained and competed in triathlons, including the 2012 Galveston Ironman 70.3 and the Zell am See Ironman 70.3 in Austria. Quote from Layn: "What's fascinating is that if you look at the training model for strength and endurance they're polar opposite. One is based on isolation through creating inefficient movements, and the other is based on compound efficient movements!"
He has immersed himself fully into the fitness industry in hopes of helping his clients to change their habits and lead healthier lives. He believes fitness should be about full-body health and wellness and therefore believes in training the whole person by including physical training, nutrition plans and encouraging healthy habits. Layn aspires to change the fitness industry one aspect at a time. To continue towards his goal he partnered with Jose in Studio Fitness in 2012.
