Biography

After touring with Zack Matalon Productions, playing first Beatrice and later Bertha in Exiles by James Joyce, Alison Mullin studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, London, from 1969-1971. 1973 Joined the Young Vic Company, playing Ursula in Much Ado About Nothing (director Frank Dunlop), Pearl in Roots and Princess Bridget in Tommy Thumb (director Bernard Goss) and in 1974 she played Ophelia in a touring production of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, (director Frank Dunlop) which then transferred to the Criterion Theatre in London's West End. She continued working with the Young Vic until 1976. 1978 Joined the Glasgow Citizens Company working with directors Giles Havergal, Robert David MacDonald and Philip Prowse, playing such roles as Elise Trent in Noel Coward's Semi Monde, Delphine de Vaudrey in Vautrin (directed and written by Robert David MacDonald), Mrs Pierce in Pygmalion and the Queen of Naples in A Waste of Time, (an adaptation of Proust by Robert David MacDonald which also toured Holland and Germany) Travelled to America in 1982, joining the Transatlantic Theatre Company, which was formed primarily to promote new plays. Since then she has worked on the fringe with this company in America, England and Ireland, directing as well as acting. 1982 Directed Rivers of Blood by Jay Jones (Judy Caden Gallery, New York) 1983 Played Miami Tonguebath in The Lizard King by Jay Jeffrey Jones (The Eton Hotel, London) Marguerita in Rivers of Blood (The Eton Hotel, London) Kitty O'Shea in Historical Prods (The Cooper Square Theatre, New York) Raisa in Rivers of Blood by Jay Jones (Judy Caden Gallery, New York) 1984 Maggie (Thatcher) in Before the Dust Settled by Eoin West (The Finsborough Arms, London) 1991 Eleanora in Historical Prods (The Cooper Square Theatre, New York) 1995 Mary Stuart in Mary Stuart by Frederich Schiller (City Arts) 1996 Tara in What's a Promise in a Place Like This? by William Rocke (Andrews Lane) Directed The Classic by Jack Moylett (West Belfast Festival) Played Woman in Ceasefire by Roseleen Walsh (The Glimmerman) 1998 Phaedre in Phaedre's Love by Sarah Kane (dir Pat Kiernan) for Corcadorca. 2000 Directed the Irish Youth Theatre in Final Encore by Roseleen Walsh for the Ardoyne Fleadh Ceoill (Golden Thread Theatre, Belfast) Moved to Dublin in 1993, where I was the primary carer for my father until he died in 1998. Worked at St John of God as Instructor, in their day centre in Bluebell. Also did Drama Classes there and several small productions. Worked as Social Care worker in Residential houses until she retired from St John of God, in 2015. Resumed theatrical career after retiring; more recent credits include the following. Played the Interviewer in Heathcote William's play "The Immortalist"at Kopi and The Anti-War Cafe in Berlin. (2016) Also in London at the October Gallery (2016), The Irish Centre, The Society Club and Pentameters Theatre (2017)
