Born in Hong Kong, Elaine immigrated to San Francisco during her sophomore year in high school. She graduated from University of California, Irvine in 2010, and held a Bachelor of Art degree in Literary Journalism. Upon graduation, Elaine worked as a senior reporter at Sing Tao Daily, one of the largest oversea Chinese language news outlet. She was also a USC Annenberg California Endowment Health Journalism Fellow.
As a writer and director at MFA candidate at University of Southern California, Elaine enjoys telling coming-of-age, romance stories, and stories related to the Asian American experiences. She has interned for Scott Hamilton Kennedy, an Academy Award nominated filmmaker, and has worked in project development with Janet Yang, a prominent China-Hollywood Producer. Elaine has also been invited to Shanghai, China as an interpreter for Irving Belatche, a USC screenwriting professor and writer, bridging the East and West cultures.
Outside of school, Elaine continues to make Chinese & English bilingual short films on Youtube and other Chinese online platform with her team at Chinclusive Productions. Her two online shorts Staying Together, and I am Single, both received awards in San Francisco Asian Students Microfilm Festival, and San Francisco New Concept Film Festival. I am Single is even featured on the largest North America Dating Site 2Redbeans.
With her bilingual abilities and diverse background, she aspires to tell more stories in the vein of Joy Luck Club, M. Butterfly, and Eat Drink Men Women, that features Asian American actors and shine light on the Chinese community.
