Biography

Barry was born in Dublin, Ireland, on September 13th, 1982. He grew up in Drimnagh and Templeogue. After working numerous jobs, Barry bought a camcorder in 2005 and started to make skits and short, guerrilla style films with friends. He wrote, directed and starred in a trilogy of B-movie style short films, called Hand Of Doom, using friends as the cast. In 2006, he did a hands-on, intensive course in digital film-making at The Irish Film Academy, Temple Bar. While training there, he made two short films; When Love & Death Embrace and Buried Alive By Love. When Love & Death Embrace was nominated for Best Film at the 27th Cork Youth International Film Festival in 2007. Also in 2007, Barry shot and edited the winning entry for the Jameson One Minute Trailer Competition. Barry went on to do a Higher National Diploma course in media production at St. Kevin's College, Crumlin. Barry got a job in The Irish Film Academy as the in-house editor, as well as teaching the editing classes in Final Cut Pro. He also occasionally filmed scenes, as well as supervising shoots. Towards the end of 2009, he came up with the idea for the series Head Shop Men, which is a comedy series set in the head shop era of Ireland. Barry wrote, directed, edited, produced and starred as the lead in the series, which has four episodes available to watch online, and is still ongoing. In 2012 Barry produced a documentary on the making of Terry McMahon's controversial film, Charlie Casanova, entitled The unmaking of Charlie Casanova. The documentary is available to watch online.
