Tate Lauren Kenney was born on July 25 in Canada to Tammy, a marketing analyst, and Scott, a police officer. She has a younger sister and has German, Irish and French ancestry. She began working as a Ford model in early childhood and was involved in competitive cheer-leading, tennis, soccer, various forms of dance, as well as cross-country and track-and-field running. Tate began acting in children's theatre at age eight. She graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Arts from the University of Western Ontario, holding a double major in English Language and Literature and Film Studies. Her Canadian credits include the world premiere of Kierston Drier's "All Things Beautiful" and Gianni Baha's "All Alone_Together", which won Best Relationship Drama at the IVEY Film Festival 2012.
Shortly after graduation, she began training at the prestigious Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York City in their Two Year Conservatory Program where she was the recipient of the Vincent D'Onofrio Scholarship Award for her lifelong dedication to method acting. Mr. D'Onofrio has become a mentor to her; she was able to train with him in an invitation-only master class and has since assisted him numerous times in his master classes for students of both the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute and NYU's Tisch School of the Arts.
Beginning to work professionally in New York, Tate frequented both the stage and screen. On stage, she starred in several productions at the Lee Strasberg Theatre, including Inge's "The Dark At The Top of The Stairs" directed by Lee Kasper, Darlene in Wilson's "Balm in Gilead" directed by Jenna Worsham and Marcia in Guirgis' "Our Lady of 121st Street" directed by Kelly O'Donnell. She work-shopped readings of plays at the legendary Actors Studio and Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, performed Off-Off-Broadway at New Perspectives Theater and as part of the Future Is Female Festival, which was a cross-country event. On camera, she played Marilyn Monroe in Cristina Noya's "Happy Birthday Mr. President", Brittany in Steven Liiro's "Mermaid Parade" and Curry in Charles J. Ouda's "Who Are You?", which was selected as one of the Top 35 films featured and won Best Director at the 72 Hour Shootout as part of the Asian American Film Lab. Tate also had a supporting role in Ali Matlock's "My Radical Valentine" which has garnered an Official Selection designation from the Calcutta International Cult Film Festival 2017, an Official Selection designation form the 2017 International Horror Hotel and was pre-selected for the Rome Film Awards 2017. She made her television debut in the leading role of true-crime victim Erin Belanger on Investigation Discovery's "The Real Story with Maria Elena Salinas", in an episode regarding Erin and the infamous X-Box Murders in Florida. She also participated in commercial campaigns for the Home T, Trish McEvoy cosmetics, IMC Restaurant and Flytes.
Most recently, she was cast in the upcoming season of Amazon's "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" and on season three of HBO's "Succession". She resides in New York City with her husband.
