Laurence Steinberg is an American psychologist and author specializing in adolescence. Much of his research and writing concerns the implications of research on brain development for how teenagers and young adults are treated under the law. His work was cited by the U.S. Supreme Court in its decisions to abolish the juvenile death penalty and to limit the use of life without parole as a sentence for juveniles. He is the author of more than 350 scholarly articles on adolescence as well as more than a dozen books, including the leading college textbook on the subject. He is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association , the Association for Psychological Science, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He joined the faculty of Temple University, in Philadelphia, in 1988.
