Gary Jarrold never meant to be an actor, but the native Arizonan who had spent much of his youth on his uncle's cattle ranch was destined for a role when his father-in-law's short story The Life and Death of a Western Gladiator was adapted for film. He was cast as the villain in this epic clash between man and nature, leading a posse of homesteaders in a war against rattlesnakes and ultimately engaging the Western Gladiator in his final battle.
