Their travels took them to Delaware where Rocio's younger brother was born. After that The next 10 years would take them over the Atlantic to England, then across the English channel to Germany, through the alps to Italy and a tiring sail along the Mediterranean to Turkiye.
When her life rich with culture, diversity and adventure landed her in the Cold rolling hills of Dayton Ohio it was as if the Joy had been suddenly sucked out of her life. Was it puberty or the realization that the life of travel had ended that caused her sudden onset of dismay? Who knows, however the next 6 years of her life would prove to be difficult to say the least. Bouts of depression and self loathing would consume her as she walked around with smiles. High-school was dreadfully filled with feelings of inadequacy and anxiety, The only exception being Mr.Haponek's Creative writing class,Art and getting the lead Female roles in 2 of the Highschool theater productions.

Her peers called her names such as "Tank Ass" and Others went around claiming they had sexual relationships with her that did not occur. Because of this she sought out a relationship with someone she did not love.
When Rocio's service ended she came home to NC and married the young man she did not love because she was frightened to come home and live a life where her days were not scheduled by the army and felt alone. The marriage was short lived, lasting less than a year. During that time Rocio had endured a miscarriage which left her longing for a child.
