A. Assil is a Syrian filmmaker living in Los Angeles. He was born in Damascus, Syria in 1989 as Abdullah Al Assil. He majored in visual communication, the closest degree to filmmaking in Syria. He wrote, produced and directed his first film entitled "The Confession", which starred famous Syrian actors and was shown at one of the biggest movie theaters in Syria during the Damascus International Film Festival, breaking him into the film industry. At a young age, Assil's vision and skill were clear and caught the attention and praise of prominent actors and directors in Syria. With all the raving feedback, the movie also basked in media attention; Assil was interviewed by all the national TV channels, local radios and magazines. He accomplished with his first short film what many others couldn't in many years in Syria. One of the sources of Assil's motivation and persistence is the 2005 Amman bombings that killed dozens in Jordan including the Syrian American filmmaker, "Moustapha Akkad", the man behind "The Message", and the well-known American horror movie franchise, "Halloween". It inflamed a challenge in him to release the entire cinematic spectrum in his mind for people worldwide to witness that "movies are stronger than bullets and tanks".
