Nik Shaw

Nik Shaw is a Los Angeles based Director of Photography shooting music videos, films, shorts, commercials and documentaries. Nik has worked on over 200 productions in various capacities including electric, Movi and drone operator, 1st AC and for the last couple of years,primarily as Director of Photography. Nik has lensed music videos for Whiz Kalifa, Sean Kingston, Angel Haze, Blackmore and others. He's shot for documentarian Robert Greenwald's The Real NRA, as well as donating his time for the Celia Center. Some of his commercial work includes Digornio Pizza, the Movember Foundation and Arizona Mead. Aside from working in the Los Angeles area, since 2016 he spent three weeks in Denmark lensing a series of music videos, a month-long job DPing a travelogue in Thailand and most recently, a 30-day film shoot in Puerto Rico. Nik began shooting in his teens when he created a successful YouTube channel that took a wry perspective on teenage angst over sex, race and dating. His work caught the eye of youth marketing companies and he began shooting promotional videos for surf and skateboard companies such as Active, Element, Nine Starr, Woodward Camps and various sponsored skaters. These jobs inspired him to dedicate his career to cinematography. As his passion for making powerful and engaging images grew, he studied technique, lighting and technology at the GlobalCinematography Institute under Yuri Neyman ASC and Vilmos Zsigmond ASC; the California Art Institute under Mark Moore, and courses from Shane Hurlbut, ASC. Nik continues to evolve as a filmmaker and cinematographer, and looks forward to collaborating on all types of film and video projects
