Matthew was born and raised on the outskirts Wrexham, UK. At the age of thirteen, he created his first short film, as part of an end of school year project. In 2013 Matthew graduated from the University of South Wales with a Bachelors Degree with Honours in Film and Video. Later that same year, Matthew was accepted as a member of the National Youth Film Academy, UK.
Matthew founded Blue Cedar Films in 2013 - a production company that has produced a variety of shorts, music videos, documentaries and corporate videos.
In between working within the industry, crewing on major features films and television dramas Matthew has been producing and directing in his spare time. He produced the short psychological thriller, Withheld which won the Thriller/Feedback Festival and was an official selection at Toronto After Dark and Shriekfest Film Festival. Matthew directed 'Ladies First', a short period drama set in 1919, focussing on a young couple challenging gender inequality as a social norm. Matthew first publicised the film at the 2016 Cannes Short Film Corner. The short film has had a successful run around the festival circuit, picking up official selections, including The Grand Rapids Feminist Film Festival. Most recently Matthew has written/directed/produced 'The Blinded Ride', set in a dystopian future, where a British refugee struggles to deal with the confinement of the lorry she is being transported in and the people that crowd it.
