Terrance Bell (born July 10th) is a new American talk host and acclaimed author, known for his international best-seller Empowering You in Pursuit of Personal Success and Fulfillment, which is available in 22 countries.
Bell was born in Memphis, Tennessee to a housewife and a day laborer, but would later be raised by his grandmother in a tiny three-bedroom home with seven others. Growing up in and out of the projects with his single mom, Terrance experienced considerable hardship during his childhood, including missed meals and a brief, unwanted stay in foster care due to his mother having been medically diagnosed with schizophrenic disorder. This prompted social workers to frequent their home. Bell faced great difficulty going to school everyday and pretending like life at home was peachy, all while his mother was home alone dealing with abnormal ways of thinking, feeling and behaving. As a result, Terrance developed very deep sensibilities and found himself drawn to people who face challenges. "As a shy and sensitive kid, I internalized more than I externalized. For most of my adolescent life and through my teen years my mother was mentally ill and I was deeply connected to many of the unfortunate circumstances that we experienced. I was forced at a young age to adapt, overcome and be resilient. I was also forced to dream as well because it was the only way that I could envision a different life.
Terrance, the oldest of six, was separated from his siblings for many years because not one family member could take them all, so they were shuffled between willing relatives and foster parents. In high school, Terrance had a flair for political debating and excelled in English. He was also a baseball standout from junior high through high school before going on to serve his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. A tour of duty that started out gung-ho, causing Bell to feel like he would be a lifer, quickly ended after a near three-year stint because he became distraught the Marine Corps would not let him take leave while his mother was succumbing to breast cancer. Bell lost all motivation for the service and went AWOL three times which warranted a prompt discharge. When he returned home - his mother passed at the age of 43 years old. Afterwards, Bell fast forwarded through a number of jobs as a new civilian, but he innately knew his passions lie in all things creative and his tremendous interest in other people.
