Biography

Dorian Hess was born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She attended St. Joseph's Academy, an all girl's Catholic high school. Her senior year, she became a published poet and discovered she had a knack for story telling when she won an inter-school short story contest. She attended Louisiana State University where she received a Bachelor of Arts in English, concentrating in creative writing, in 2006 and a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology in 2007. She studied abroad at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, England and backpacked Europe and Morocco solo for 2 months. Dorian moved to Los Angeles in 2008 to attend the University of Southern California's School of Cinematic Arts for a Masters of Fine Arts in Writing for Screen and Television. Living on 3 hours of sleep a night and studying dialogue every available moment must have paid off, as she completed her initial year with her first completed screenplay "Damnation" being named a Nicholls Fellowship quarter-finalist. In 2010, she graduated from USC with distinction on her thesis script "After the Fall". In December 2011, she received a phone call from an adviser at USC asking to pass her thesis along to Matthew Arnold, creator and executive producer of NBC's "Siberia". Three months later, Dorian was a staff writer on Siberia.
