Born in Boston and raised in South Florida, Christopher Yang has had a passion for filmmaking since he was given a point-and-shoot camera at age 13. He would experiment and take photographs and piece together the frames to create movement. After doing a number of stop-motion vignettes involving toy race cars to recreate scenes from George Lucas' "American Graffiti" and making montages with videos and photographs, Yang began writing and directing longer and more complex short films. Although being mostly self-taught in various aspects of filmmaking from watching movies, reading books, and making movies, he felt the need to further his skills and knowledge by studying production and theory in college. Yang is presently working on his first feature-length screenplay with plans to direct it.
Strongly influenced by American filmmakers Steven Spielberg, Christopher Nolan, Sofia Coppola, John Cassavetes, the French New Wave and East Asian cinema, Yang aspires to be a successful storyteller in the language of cinema as a career film director.
Yang has achieved some success in high school as a 4-time Honorable Mention recipient of the Student Television Awards of Excellence awarded by the Suncoast Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for his short feature, advertisement, and animation works. He was also twice awarded the Editor's Award (2010, 2011) from the award-winning television department of University School of Nova Southeastern University.
Yang is currently pursuing an undergraduate dual-degree in Film & Television and East Asian Studies from Boston University.
