Michael "Mikelyrik" Barnes was born in Mt. Vernon NY to Leonie P Barnes and Oswald L Barnes, both born in Jamaica, West Indies. He attended several religious private schools before transferring to Mt Vernon public middle school and then graduated from M.V.H.S. Mikelyrik studied psychology & theater at Lehman College in Bronx, NY while composing his first professional music demo and working as a professional model. His unique image & charisma gained him major online popularity and ultimately got him booked on several international tour band gigs where he amassed a larger fan base for his original music. He has released several successful independent music projects, some of which are featured in films. In 2009 Mikelyrik won his 1st Underground Music Award for Best Male R&B artist in New York City at the notable event held in Times Square, B. B. King Blues Club. He has since won over 8 Indie Awards for his music which is influenced by dance-hall with pop melodies and gospel harmonies. He lists Prince, Madonna and Aaliyah as his biggest music inspirations. 'Pop Soul' artist Mikelyrik has performed on stages throughout Dubai, Bahrain, Hong Kong & other international exotic locations. He has hosted several charity events in NYC, has been featured in top music publications, stage plays, indie films, and continues touring both nationally and internationally.
