Steve Anderson

Biography

Steve earned his MFA in Acting from the prestigious Professional Theatre Training Program at Brandeis University in 1991, where he received a full-tuition scholarship and teaching assistantship. While in grad school, he taught undergraduate Movement for the Performer. As an actor, he has worked off-Broadway and in regional theatre with the likes of Obie Award-winner Ralph Lee & The Mettawee River Theatre Company, with whom he was honored to participate in the ticker tape parade for Nelson Mandela in 1990, and Emmy Award-winning television producer Burt Rosen in Los Angeles (Leonidik in My Poor Marat under the direction of Avner Garbi), a show he starred in and co-produced to raise funds for the Bosnian Relief Effort. He has also worked at theatres in Boston, including the Huntington Theatre Company, the New Rep, the Majestic, and the Boston Publick. While in Los Angeles, he was a member of the Blue Line Theatre Company and performed in noteworthy productions, including The Walker Women of Willow Grove, directed by Bonnie Pemberton, which won a DramaLogue Award, and Telethon at the Burbage Theatre. Steve has been training actors for 20 years, both in private and formal settings. He has been a guest artist at Clemson University, the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, among others, where he taught Acting, Relaxation for the Performer, and Stage Combat. A few of his most recent stage directing credits include Flaming Guns of the Purple Sage, She Loves Me, Dido & Aeneas, The Language of Flowers, as well as staged readings of Warren Bodow's new plays Deelmayker and Baja, Tulapia (May, 2013), The Guy on First Base (April 2014), and Caryl Chuchill's, A Number, for the UA Honor's College (April, 2013). Steve directed "Vote," a short film commissioned by Arizona State Senator Paula Aboud. With a focus on women's rights, this short film played to appreciative audiences at the Progressive Film Festival and at many rallies around the state of Arizona. Steve is in development on his second feature film, "Jackson & Delilah."
