Early Life & Education: Sitesh Chandra Chakraborty was born on September 4, 1917, in a village called Tyantra, Basirhat which is situated in the north 24 Parganas of West Bengal. He completed his education at R.N Chatterjee high school, Bhabla, followed by Basirhat college. He then moved to Calcutta in 1938.
Career: In his initial years, Sitesh Chandra Chakraborty was working with various companies. He then joined the Calcutta Municipal Corporation, Cossipore branch where he worked till his retirement in1975. He started his acting career under his father Shri Sudhir Chandra Chakraborty. Later he (Sitesh) dropped 'Chandra' from his name. Father Shri Sudhir Chandra was reputed for his knowledge and competence to play various musical instruments and other cultural activities. Chakraborty family was a very big joint family, and all the members of the family were involved in various cultural activities which would take place in the village and its surrounding areas. Besides acting, he (Sitesh) also had an interest in recitation and signing. He then performed with various group theatre/amateur clubs in Calcutta. He also worked as a drama director in Calcutta Municipal Corporation and directed several dramas for their annual cultural program. Then, he moved on to a larger venture and started working with commercial theatre. He worked with Shri Sabitabrata Dutta in Antony Kobyal at Kashi Vishwanath Mancha, with Tarun Kumar & Ms. Tripti Mitra in Biraj Bou, and with Rupak Majumder & Ms. Shamita Biswas in Vidyasundar at Sheesh Mahal Theater, to mention a few. In the meantime, he also joined Shilpi Sansad founded by the great star Uttam Kumar. He then performed in several in-house drama productions on various stages. The success and the appreciation that he received from his work and audience respectively, encouraged to work on the big screen. He made his big-screen debut with Uttam Kumar and Sabitri Chatterji starrer Bengali film Nishipadma (1970). Then he went on to act in various films like Banpalashir Padabali (1973), Sanyashi Raja (1975), Banhishikha (1976), Dui Prithibi (1980), etc.
Personal life: Sitesh Chakraborty was married to Namita Chakraborty. They had four daughters and two sons. Death and legacy: Sitesh Chakraborty passed away on 22 December 1979 at the age of 62 due to heart-related illness. He was survived by his wife, four married daughters, two sons, and several grandchildren. Two years later in 1981, his wife passed away too. The members of the next generations are successfully established and have lovely families.
