Biography

Anshul Tiwari is a Singapore based Indian film director, screenwriter, and editor. Coming from the small town of Jabalpur in India to a middle class family, he grew up surrounded by literature, drama, films and music. He saw the Indian film Guide (starring Dev Anand) at the age of 12 and decided to become a filmmaker. Anshul has directed five award winning short fiction films, and more than thirty documentaries. His short fiction film WABI SABI based on the Japanese philosophy of Wabi Sabi, opened the Singapore Japan Film Festival (SJ50) and was selected at Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF). The short films that brought his name to public attention were BIN BULAAYE (starring Naseeruddin Shah and Ira Dubey) which won the top prize for the Best Short at 21st Mumbai Film Festival (MAMI) and SUGEE CAKE (starring Mel Ferdinand and Bridget Fernandez) which is part of the permanent collection of Cinema World Asia. In 2020, Anshul created DEAR NEW NEIGHBOUR, one of the first short films commissioned by iMDA Singapore during the pandemic. His documentaries have won several awards including Best Film at Shorty Social Good Media Award, Los Angeles and SIMA Social Impact Media Award for his film BREAK THE SILENCE and Best Documentary Film at IAFOR FilmAsia Japan for his film ROSARIO. His first feature film PAKHEE was filmed during the 2020 pandemic and is due to be released in 2021.
