Aleksandr Tananov was born in 1988 in Yaroslavl, Yaroslavl region, RSFSR, USSR [now Russia]. In 2010 he graduated from the VGIK as a cinematographer, and started work as a director of photography (DOP). In 2011 he filmed Russian director Taisiya Igumentseva's short film The Road To (2011) ("The Road To"), which won the main prize of the Cinéfondation competition the following year at the 65th Cannes Film Festival. In 2012, he shot his first full-length movie, Otdat kontsy (2013) ("Bite the Dust"), also directed by Igumentseva, which premiered at the 66th Cannes Film Festival in 2013. Since then, in addition to work on short films, he has worked as the DOP on Russian director Roman Karimov's full-length films All at Once (2014) ("All at Once"), Gulyay, Vasya! (2017) ("School Chums") and Have Fun, Vasya! Date in Bali (2021). One the most important independent movies in career is Birmingham Ornament 2 (2013) (CinemaXXI Roma Special Jury Prize) and Eliksir (2015) (was selected 66 Berlinale official program ) Another work of Aleksandr, drama "Tragedy in Roger's Bay", has many prizes for cinematography, including prize from Russian Guild of Cinematographers. One the best post-soviet era Russian comedy Dad (2021) also was shot by Aleksandr Tananov. It was in top ratings of Russian box-office and ratings in online distribution platforms during 2021 year. Also it wins prizes at NYC Web Fest for best foreign movie and prize for "Outstanding achievements in lightning"
