Biography

Alecs Nastoiu was born on 30'th November 1982 in Bucharest, Romania. When he was young he was attracted to puzzles, magic and mathematics. None of these elements conducts us to think of his desire to pursue a career in film. He did not know that as well. But these small pleasures outlined his personality and have led to his choice in profession. During High School, at "Saint Sava" National College in Bucharest, Alecs learned how to combine business with pleasure. Childhood pleasures correlated with film directing at last. As in cinematography you have to be very calculated, must pay a lot of attention to details, must solve complex situations, you have to be patient and have to catch the interest of the viewers in a pleasant way. All in one: math, puzzles and magic. In 2007, Alecs got his degree in film and television directing at the University of Drama and Cinematography "IL Caragiale" (UNATC) in Bucharest. With three short films produced during college ("Happiness Street no. 9", "5 years or five minutes?" and "A new home"), Alecs took part in several short film festivals between 2007-2009 as: !fistanbul International Independent Film Festival, Turkey; Trieste Film Festival, Italy; Festival International de Cinema do Algarve, Portugal; New York International Independent Film and Video Festival, US; The Budapest Short International Film Festival, Hungary; Open-Air FilmFest Weiterstadt, Germany; Motovun Film Festival, Zagreb, Croatia; ANONIMUL International Independent Film Festival, Saint George - Danube Delta, Romania; International Short Film Festival in Drama, Greece; Magma International Short Film Festival, Acireale Sicily, Italy; International Short Film Festival Bunter HUND Munich, Munich, Germany; ITACA07, Padova, Italy; Euroshorts 2007 Festival, Warsaw, Poland; Brest European Short Film Festival, Brest, France; Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Market, Clermont-Ferrand. During 2005-2007, Alecs specialised in video editing and production for television, working on Realitatea TV (TV Station). After this period, Alecs became a founder member of Cultural Association "Green Art Tour", where he start developing projects, all these years till present. During this period he coordinated several projects aiming at promoting morality and culture through artistic, ecological and tourist type of events: "Digital Transylvania", "United Colours" (a project promoting the concept of participatory democracy in rural Romania)"Hopa Mitica (project dedicated to strengthening the confidence of young people with economic, geographical or social difficulties ," Film Workshop "(a cultural camp in which young aspiring filmmakers receive free courses chaired by professionals in the field)," The Beer Community "Bucharest (Festival aiming to promote Romanian and international beer brands a)," BITFF "- Bucharest International Tourism Film Festival (Parliament Palace - Bucharest)," SPS TALENT CAMP "(Raciu jud. Mures)," SPS LOW / NO BUDGET Online Short Film Festival, "" Short Film Factory " a Tournament of short films "in 28 cities in Romania. As a result of his project on personal development of children through cultural and artistic expressions in 2012, Alecs Nastoiu wrote the first volume of an 'illustrated novel for kids' called "Voice of Matthew "- the Sunday when we saved the planet - a book that looks at empowering children in regards with environment protection. Since 2013, Alecs developed in Targu Mures, with Ovidiu Vasu his first independent film, produced entirely in the area. The film is called "Billion Star Hotel" and had it's premiere in Romania, on February 20th, 2016. Billion Star Hotel has 19 awards and 52 official selections to festivals.
