Born in Barnsley, South Yorkshire in 1988, Brett started experimenting with filmmaking in his early teens.
The move into more professional work began when Brett attended The University of Sheffield and found work producing live music promos and videos for local bands.
Studying Journalism, Brett combined his studies and music work to develop a style based in documentary film - this lead to the creation of his 2010 Documentary Short 'Greta'.
After leaving University Brett's work started to move away from straight documentary towards narrative lead films and he worked in the camera department on several indie shorts and features including 2013's The Eschatrilogy: Book of the Dead.
His debut short, Lilly, was next with Brett developing a strong visual style that puts emphasis on combining composition and negative space with rich characters grounded in the real world.
