Biography

Forty years in the field of social work with a Master's degree in Gerontological Services Administration from the New School For Social Research in NYC, Chris was one of the founders of SAGE-NYC (1977), the first social services agency to address the needs of older LGBT people. Chris also founded MATRIX, a non-profit that was to serve as a retirement, retreat center for older lesbians. Although MATRIX did not survive the 1980's, the concept has flourished and LGBT retirement centers are appearing across the U.S. Chris was honored with the NOW-National Organization For Women's, "Susan B. Anthony Award" for founding SAGE. Her research "The Invisible Minority: Aging & Lesbianism" (1982), was one of the first research projects to focus on the lives of older lesbians.
