Brandon Jess, or B.J., was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado and raised by his mother and stepfather in Sterling, Colorado the middle child of a large family. His mother was a financial aid director for junior colleges and his stepfather was a law enforcement officer for the State Patrol. Brandon regularly visited his father, a fish hatchery manager, and his stepmother while growing up. For nearly 3 years after high school he toured the continental U.S. and Scandinavia with a singing and repertory theatre company, and upon his return to the States he attended the Colorado Film School, married a fellow acting student, and went on to earn a B.F.A. in Film/Theatre/Television and a Master's in Humanities from the University of Colorado at Denver. He is by no means a deep thinker, but admits to having a "weakness for thought," like some have a weakness for sugar. After his marriage of 6 years ended he left Academia and pursued his original passion of acting with the breakthrough role of Bob Halloran in "Aviation Cocktail." His approach to the craft is both intuitive and intellectual, and his love of performing is the same as it was when he started out in elementary school.
