Prof. Dr. J.H. (Josine) Block is Professor of Ancient History and is especially interested in the history of the Greek archaic and classical period. She is particularly concerned with issues concerning politics, religion and social relations in the ancient Greek world. These issues were also raised in her dissertation on the Amazon Myth (1991, English edition 1995). Her current research focuses on the theory and practice of citizenship in classical Athens. She also interested in the nineteenth century, particularly for the study of classical studies at that time. Since 2001 she has been president of the European Network for the Study of Ancient Greek History.
