Fernando A. Mico is an Award Winning Filmmaker from Alexandria, VA. While still in the Boston University film program, his first production, EVER AFTER (Reloaded), garnered acclaim by winning Action Film of the Year at the Action On Film International Film Festival in Los Angeles, CA. His feature film beat out several hundred great, well funded movies and went on to be distributed through major outlets such as Amazon, Best Buy, Target, Walmart and Barnes & Noble.
After graduating from George Mason University with a double major in Fine Art and Government & Politics, Mico's early career began as a colorist for MARVEL Comics Entertainment in California. His childhood dream was fulfilled in digitally coloring popular characters like Spider-Man, Wolverine, X-Men and the Avengers. From comic books he went on to design movie posters and collateral for studios such as Paramount, Warner Bros., Universal Studios, and Disney.
Mico began training in martial arts as a child and never stopped. He is a Tae Kwon Do master, holding a 6th degree black belt and is a 4 time US National gold medalist; receiving invitations to train for the US Olympic team. Combining a lifetime of martial arts and filmmaking prowess, it is no surprise that Fernando's initial success came from producing action movies.
Mico has also been teaching martial arts for most of his life. It seems instructing is in his blood; having taught filmmaking at his alma mater, Boston University, for several years and graphic design at Johns Hopkins University. A year after graduating from Boston University's film making program, he was invited to become an instructor.
While he continues to produce, write, direct and handle all aspects of post production for his production company Violent Hues Productions, his major role is now as the director of The Northern Virginia International Film Festival & CAPITAL Film Market, the largest film festival and market of its kind in the United States. Fernando also produces a network of film festivals across the country, the GO Independent International Film Festivals. The list of GO Indie Fests include: The GO DC Fest, The Southern California International Film Festival, The MIAMI International Cinefest, The Dallas International Cinema Awards, The Atlanta International Cinefest, The Milwaukee International Movie Festival, The Cleveland International Cinefest, The Chapel Hill International Film Festival, The Southern Florida International Cinema Festival, and The West Florida International Film Festival.
When not producing films or major events, Fernando also makes time to produce a local television show, the GO NOVA Entertainment Show and is the director to his animal foundation, the NOVA K9 Foundation. And don't blink, because if you don't catch him at one of his various productions, you can also find him making an occasional cameo on productions such as Netflix's House of Cards, HBO's VEEP, and Disney/Marvel's Black Panther.
