David Thompson studied at the University of Leeds before running the Hyde Park Cinema, where he began to act as Producer working with graduates of the Northern Film School. After leaving the cinema he worked in industry as a sound recordist, before going on to write and direct his own independent films. He joined the University of Cumbria in 2014 and before becoming the Programme Leader for Filmmaking at Manchester Metropolitan University in 2017. His expertise lies in ideas development, storytelling structure and offline editing. A filmmaker with extensive media industry experience having worked both nationally and internationally for over a decade, making films in many roles across different platforms. Working for companies including Universal Pictures, ABC, BBC, ITV, C4, Film4, Channel 5, Discovery, Al Rayan, Teachers TV, Audi, IKEA, Jet2 and EMI amongst others.
