Biography

In 2008, Rudy Garcia decided that one career was not enough. So this traffic engineer decided to pursue a second career in the news business, his high school obsession. At Archbishop Mitty High School, Mr. Garcia co-produced the daily announcements show. He wrote and coordinated on-air talent for the 5-15 minute closed circuit broadcast. He also wrote for the school's newspaper, The Monarch. After high school, some circumstances led him to the University of California, Irvine (UCI) where he pursued a degree in civil engineering and a career as a highly skilled traffic engineer in the freeway capital of the world, Southern California. However, something was missing so he decided to start taking video and journalism classes at Orange Coast College. After his first video class, Mr. Garcia found himself on his very first red carpet at the Newport Beach Film Festival. He also interned at the Newport-Mesa Daily Voice now the Newport Beach Independent, an online newspaper covering issues in Newport Beach. He has had the privilege to study under former managing editors from the Los Angeles Times. Since his first red carpet experience, Mr. Garcia has covered other celebrity filled events including the 2011 ESPN Awards (ESPY) pre-party in Hollywood. Mr. Garcia continues to pursue both an engineering and news career searching for a way to blend them together. He takes pride in covering the news as an engineer by day, and a journalist by night.
