Born and raised in the Silverlake district of Los Angeles, the place where Charlie Chaplin filmed his first movie and Walt Disney built his first studio. Albert's love of film, imagery and sound formed at a young age, living in a family and community of artists and musicians, with early childhood memories of tinkering and experimenting with old cameras and lenses, and writing and illustrating his own comic books. His passion for visual communication escalated in middle school, where he took graphic arts classes, learning to design, layout and run printing presses. His artistic talents would further develop in high school where his art teacher would open her classroom two hours early so he could work on his art projects before school.
Albert developed an uncompromising passion for all forms of creative expression, winning first place in a national high school competition where his work was displayed in the White House. At the age of 17, he was commissioned to paint a mural in a high traffic area of Los Angeles. His pedigree for sound and music took hold when he got his first job as a DJ which lead to producing music and sound in his bedroom studio. Albert continued visual arts studies in graphic design at Art Center in Pasadena while working as a part time graphic artist at a commercial printing company and as a baby portrait photographer, where he taught himself to light and shoot on old Rolleiflex and Hasselblad film cameras. At age 19, he was hired as a graphic designer for an apparel manufacturer in LA. Within a year, he was promoted to directing all advertising, branding and marketing communications for the company and its affiliate retail stores nationwide. From baby portraits to fashion shoots, he found it more efficient to shoot his own pictures, which launched his career as a fashion photographer. He then built his own photography studio at age 21 and began developing clients in the fashion industry.
At age 24, he took a job as an art director designing for Universal Pictures' feature film advertising while building a book of freelance clients from major advertising agencies where he directed campaigns for brands like Coors Light, Cheerios, Yoplait, Nissan, Lincoln Mercury and Land Rover. In 1997, he formed a creative agency specializing in entertainment marketing, the company grew with clients like HBO, Showtime, TW and Discovery. As a strong supporter of the arts, he worked with institutions like the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Los Angeles Master Chorale, where he helped develop branding and marketing strategies targeting Hispanic audiences and served as a producer and consultant on the first ever Latin-music concert in the Walt Disney Concert Hall.
With a strong understanding of entertainment marketing and the impending digital media revolution, he started RadioactiveGiant in 2006, with a focus on opportunities around the rapid adoption of emerging media. In 2012, Albert began producing feature films where he served as lead creative producer for Killing Winston Jones, starring Richard Dreyfuss and Danny Glover. In 2014, he made his directorial debut with a psychological thriller called By the Rivers of Babylon, starring Crispin Glover, Connie Stevens and Mark Boone Junior.
Albert lives in Los Angeles with his wife and children and in addition to his work as a filmmaker he still shoots film photography, produces music and remains active in all forms of visual arts. His mother was in politics, at the White House and local levels, on the Task force for Ethical Charities, for the Los Angeles Police Department, and was appointed by Governor Pete Wilson on The Commission on Improving Life through Service. His father is in real estate banking with a long career in both public and private sectors.
