Biography

Ibo was born in 1979 in Istanbul, Turkey. When he was 15 years old, during a summer holiday in 1994, he came with his mother and older brother to The Netherlands to visit his father, who has been working and living there for many years. During the stay his parents have suddenly decided to establish the family in The Netherlands. By then The Netherlands became abruptly his hometown. After the second year of his study Public Administration at The Hague University, he went in 2004 to the UK to learn English. During those years he got also interested in literature, poetics and philosophy. He also got involved with Marxist movements. After finishing Public Administration, Ibo has worked as a consultant and project manager for several years. In those years he also started to experiment with photography. Ibo's love for film and storytelling turned out to be stronger than expected. So he switched career and received directing and screenwriting training from famous Dutch Directors and Screenwriters like Jos Stelling, Paula van der Oest, Robert Alberdingk Thijm and Tamara Bos. Ibo has two times signed up for the Dutch Film and Television Academy in Amsterdam. Therefore he made two shorts movies. He has succeeded to be selected among more than 300 people for the second round. In both cases, he is not succeeded to belong to the first 6. He by then started the pre-master Film and Television Studies, at The Utrecht University focusing mainly on film narratology and dramaturgy. He is a member of the Rinkel Film [nl] (Production) in Amsterdam since February 2015 and involved, as a Development Executive and Creative Producer, in the development of on-going and new projects for future lengths. Ibo loves Janneke Pol and their lovely daughter Roya Evîn Karatay.
