Biography

From Panama to Los Angeles, Matt Sample has spent nearly two decades working with some of the biggest brands and agencies in the world. The Indiana born Creative relocated to Los Angeles in 2003, two weeks fresh from marriage. In 2010, Matt, Brooke and his two small boys relocated to Panama City, Panama where he was instrumental in scaling an 8 person outsource facility to an interactive creative team of 48, before returning to LA in late 2012. Once again state-side, now with an additional Panamanian born son in tow, Matt continued to build a reputation as Creative Director and Entrepreneur alongside the Post-Production legacy of New Wave Entertainment. Matt then founded the Los Angeles-based creative agency, hi5.agency. As Chief Creative, he leads a team of diverse integrated storytellers who continue to challenge the status quo with their bold entertainment and brand client roster including Spotify, Cisco, Blizzard, Fender, Netflix, Amazon, Hulu and FX. In 2020, 2019 and 2017 hi5.agency was named mid-sized agency of the year by the Shorty Awards and has been recognized by The Hermes, CLIO, Webby, Muse and ProMax Awards for class leading campaigns in A/V, Social, Strategy, and Original Content. As a CLIO Award winning commercial/promo director Matt has worked with the likes of Drew Barrymore, Timothy Olyphant, Uzo Aduba, Laura Prepone, Krysten Ritter, Charlie Cox, Kate Mulgrew, George Clooney, Frances Fisher and Maisie Williams. Most recently known for directing the One Nation Music video featuring EDI Mean and Xzibit in 2021. Off the clock, Matt is known as DJ Type-A: a notoriously deep crate digger with a fetish for original print Hip Hop & Dancehall 12"s from the late 80's and early 90's.
