David Ian Howe is an American anthropologist, artist, comedian, and science communicator. He is best known for popularizing the science of the human and dog relationship; ethnocynology.
David was born and raised on Long Island, New York on February 8th, 1992. He later attended high school in Nashville, TN. He is of English and Jewish-Ukrainian ancestry.
Howe completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 2014. At UT, Howe studied archaeology and participated in several archaeological field projects, including several field seasons at the Topper Site. Howe then attended graduate studies at the University of Wyoming to study hunter-gatherer anthropology. At Wyoming, Howe conducted research on lithic technology, Paleoindian culture, and projectile weaponry. He earned his master's degree in 2017.
David is the director and producer of his company, Howe and Why Productions, where writes, directs, and performs science entertainment media. His media is hosted on his Instagram (@ethnocynology) and his (davidianhowe) YouTube and TikTok. He is also a talented archer and artist, and studied stand up comedy under Rick Crom at the Comedy Cellar.
David has written scripts for Ted Ed, consulted with PBS Eons, and was nominated for a Peabody Award in Archaeology Education.
