A Minneapolis photographer and director known by his commercial assignments and videos, Jonathan Chapman began making photos in high school. He attended Minnesota Community & Technical College and then the University of Minnesota, where he majored in photography and business.
He worked at the school newspaper and, after graduating, started his own commercial and freelance photography and cinematography business, where he worked for about 20 years, shooting for editorial clients, and then built his advertising clientele. Later on, he moved into directing commercials and short films. Chapman died on June 18, 2019 by suicide at age 46.
