Biography

Born and raised in Erie, Pennsylvania. Calkins enlisted in the Pennsylvania State Police Police on February 23, 1998, and became a Criminal Investigator in 2002. He was assigned as the lead investigator on the 'body in the freezer case' on September 20, 2003, when William A. Rothstein confessed to placing the murdered body of James Roden in a chest freezer in his garage. Calkins worked with the FBI who was investigating a bank robbery, which occurred a month earlier and ended with the death of the robber, Brian Wells. Wells died in police custody, within an hour of robbing the bank, when a bomb which attached to his neck exploded. Calkins appeared, as himself as a Pennsylvania State Trooper, in the Netflix documentary series, "Evil Genius: The True Story of America's Most Diabolical Bank Heist. He can be seen in the middle of "Part 2: The Frozen Body", on police-recorded video, where he is interviewing Rothstein during a crime-scene walk-through of Rothstein's home.
