Elena Selene is a Colombian actress born in Barranquilla. Her journey started at a very young age without her even knowing it. At age 3, in preschool, she almost skipped 2 years because she had memorized an audio book her mom used to play for her before dinner, and when she was "reading" it to her friends her teacher saw her and took her to every classroom in school proudly showing that this toddler was able to read. Obviously when they change the book show was over, but Elena had never felt more alive.
Her favorite hobby became observing people on the streets, on restaurants, everywhere, watch how they behave, trying to understand human condition. She used to practice how they act, talk, and walk. Every afternoon she will play teacher and teach everything she learned that day to her toys and later on to her fellow classmates. This game made her top in her class and convinced her parents she was extremely passionate about education, little did they know what she really enjoyed was playing the role.
Human behavior became her obsession which made her choice easy when it was time to decide what to study. She went to Bogotá to study in the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana and got her bachelor's degree in Psychology. She did her internships at a school working with children where she found out she was not the typical psychologist. One of her techniques was to get into the children's world by playing and been able to help them by understanding their own language. Till today she says there's no better actor than children. One of the most incredible anecdotes she has from this time is about this little girl with down syndrome who was not able to speak clearly, but every morning she'll act what she did the day before and that was the way they learned to communicate.
Elena could say acting chase her ever since she could remember, she participated in every show at school, went to dance academy, was lead in every play her theater class will present. When she graduated she met her first boss, a music manager, who was drawn to her for her charming personality and incredible people skills, and she introduced her to the world of public relations and networking. She started meeting people in the business and they're first impression of her was always followed by the same question, "Are you an actress?"
By this time, she had developed a new game, during the weekend when she went out with her friends, she created a different character, she'll change her hairstyle, wear a wig, and dress accordingly for this new roles, the rules were simple she needed to stay in character for the whole night and then write whatever happened; her characters came to life before the story did, and this fascinated her. The first 3 characters she portrayed were based on a novel she wrote when she was 15 years old.
When she understood that what made her feel alive was acting, she started learning the craft in a prestigious academy in Bogotá and participating in various short films, but after only 6 months she knew she needed to go to New York City. Elena attended the New York Film Academy (NYFA) conservatory one year program in acting for film and graduated on May 2019. She is Meisner trained but wants to develop her own technique combining psychology and acting. Her magnetic personality, passionate way of approaching life, and fashion style makes her interesting to people around her, at least twice a day she's stopped on the street with the same question: "are you an actress?"
