Biography

Raquel Sáenz-Llano was born in Medellín, Colombia. She started her professional path in Classical Music and lyrical singing at the age of 15. In her twenties, she began to experiment with melodies using her traditional background in music theory. She debuted as a songwriter with her Cycle of Five Acapella Songs called Selva Vírgen at the Camara de Comercio de Medellín in 2013. She was undoubtedly enthusiastic with opera and the vocal technique training, but she was not wholly satisfied by the librettos and narratives behind the music because they were foreign to her culture and the traditional tales and legends of her childhood. In 2014 she found The Weeping Woman legend which became the inspiration for her story The Llorona, a version of the legend targeting a bilingual audience in North and South America. After two years of writing and research in Colombia, she won a scholarship to Lousiana State University, where she defended her Master Thesis on this subject. Nowadays she is revising her book The Llorona, a Novel with Sound in Spanish with some poems in English. At the same time, she is composing the soundtrack to the story. She also performed several times as an actress with Fractal Teatro in Medellín, Colombia. And as extra for an educative film at LSU. Nowadays, she is willing to join the Motion Pictures and Entertainment Industry as an Actor/Singer for Musicals, TV Shows and Films.
