Biography

American-born woman who moved to Germany in 1934. She got a job broadcasting Nazi propaganda in an English-language program for the Nazi government during the war, becoming known to GIs as "Axis Sally". Arrested in Berlin in 1947, she was returned to the US and charged with treason. Convicted in 1949, she was sentenced to 30 years in prison. Paroled after serving 12 years, she later converted to Catholicism and got a job teaching in a convent in Columbus, OH, where she died of colon cancer in 1988.
