Biography

Agustinus Dwi Nugroho was born in Temanggung on August 27, 1990. He studied film since 2008 at film academy in Yogyakarta. Here, he began to know more about film, both in terms of study and production. During his lecture time, he was active in making both short fiction and documentary films. He is also an early-graduated student and achieved the best graduate student at his academy. He joined the Montase Film Community since 2008, which at that time was still focusing on film critics through Bulletin Montase, before moving to montasefilm. Since then, he has been actively writing film reviews and articles. He is also the editor of the film book Memahami Film Second Edition (2017), and one of the writers of Kompilasi Buletin Film Montase Vol.1 - 3 (2018) and 30 Film Indonesia Terlaris 2002 - 2018 (2019) books. After graduating, he continued his bachelor degree program in Communication Studies at one of the private universities in Yogyakarta. His final research task theme was about neorealism cinema, comparing local production films that have a similar theme. In 2017, he completed his master's studies at the Graduate Program of the Department of Art Studies at the Indonesian Art Institute (ISI) Yogyakarta, with the main interest in film studies. His thesis research is related to the narrative study and the plot of a film. Currently, he is a permanent lecturer at Yogyakarta Art Institute (ISI), Record Media Study Program, Film and Television Department and teaching film criticism. He also actively provides training, public lectures, seminars in several dictionaries, as well as being presenters in international conferences. His research has always focused on the study of narrative and cinematic of a film. At the Montase Film Community, he served as community chairman since 2016 till now. Together with his colleagues, he also actively involved in film production and focuses on script writing and directing. He directed both fiction and documentary, such as The Sacred of Kudus (2014), Ambarrukmo: Kedaton in Whirlpool (2016), Arca (2015), and Reco (2016). The films successfully achieved official selection and finalists at various international and national film festivals. Arca became the official selection at 14th International Short & Independent Film Festival Dhaka 2016. The Paintings of War: Aggression in the Eyes of Children succeeded in becoming a finalist at the 12th Belize International Film Festival 2017, which had previously also earned the best documentary nomination in the Apresiasi Film Indonesia (AFI) 2016. In 2014, he won the Best Screenplay for Superboy at an independent film festival in Yogyakarta.
