Biography

Jongryul Lee was born in Republic of Korea in November 1967. Lee is a director of TV documentaries on wildlife and a wildlife photographer. He is currently living in Tanzania and he has been sleeping more than 1,000 days in Serengeti National Park. His career started in the television broadcasting industry. The first personal experience with Africa started in 1996, when he was assigned to develop and direct a special documentary for MBC (Major broadcasting company in Korea), titled 'Touring Africa in eighty days'. After that, he went on to develop and direct many more documentaries about indigenous people and their culture during 6 years in 18 countries in Africa. Africa, the land where he found the primordial beauty of nature, began to take center in his life. During 15 years, he concentrated wildlife filming. He was a line producer for such as famous Korean TV program as 'Serengeti, The plains for wildlife' and 'Chimpanzee of Tanganyika'. He also directed the MBC special documentary 'Lion Queen' that was aired recently. As a result of observation in Serengeti about climate changes and reaction of animals, he directed and produced the UHD wildlife documentary "Panthera". While staying in Africa, he started to capture the wildlife of vast African plains with his camera. He published "Wildholic" that contains his 10 years of Serengeti story and photographs at 2010. Then he published English version and Chinese version of this book. Those books are used by Tanzania national parks authority for promotion purpose. Tanzania national parks authority his expertise as a director of wildlife documentary and a photographer, and his contribution in promoting the wildlife of Tanzania to worldwide visitors.
