Biography

Joseph Al Ahmad is a multilingual biracial actor, director, and writer. He was born on May 4, 1996 in Sofia, Bulgaria. His mother, a journalist, is Black, (of Sudanese-Nubian descent), and his father, a professor, is from Syria. He studied at the National High School of Applied Arts 'St. Luke' in Sofia, majoring in Fine Arts. Upon his graduation in 2015, he attended the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography aka VGIK in Moscow, widely considered to be the world's oldest film school. He successfully graduated from the latter with a BA in 2020, and left Stanislavski's homeland to pursue a career in the West. Known for directing Motives (2018) , Chase (2019) , as well as for his supporting role as the character Bassam in the Egyptian/Hungarian TV series Above the Clouds (2018).
