Sebastian Weis is an award-winning documentary filmmaker who has worked for international broadcasters such as Arte, BBC, KBS, HBO, VICE and CBC. Sebastian Weis has reported from war zones in Syria, Iraq, and Mali. His films about North Korea sparked worldwide interest and press coverage. In 2017 Weis shot the investigative documentary Dollar Heroes about North Korea's forced laborers. The documentary was shown in more than 70 countries and is part of the series Whyslavery?, which was a Best Curated Series nominee at the IDA Documentary Awards in Los Angeles and which was nominated for the Grierson Award in the United Kingdom in 2019. In 2018, Weis was also nominated for the Prix Europa in the category European Journalist of the Year. Dollar Heroes won the Golden Nymph Award for best documentary at the 2019 Monte Carlo TV Festival.
