'Refuge - The Stone Garden at Weston' is a 20 minute film about the Art Collector Ronnie Duncan's love for stone and his philosophy on life and of 'living through his eyes'. Shot over the last year it is led by capturing light passing across the stones, which appears to animate them and by an absorbing conversation with Ronnie. The film gently examines stories; the creation of an environment, the nature of possessions and the reclaiming and reusing of materials. It seeks to capture the possible transience of the Stone Garden as much as the semi-permanence of the stones themselves. 'Refuge' was first screened in October 2016 at the Barn Gallery at Weston as part of a unique exhibition that incorporated film, sculpture, installation and photography by six artists. The idea of curating an integrated responsive exhibition took root as Clare was making the film inspired by the quietly ageing stones and their displacement, the art works reflects this and many other strong social metaphors and ideas. Alongside the central film, images were projected on the barn gallery walls themselves; once a cattle barn in a previous life, this uneven surface threw up further depth and significance to the more formal stones cast upon them. Mobiles sculptures were hung from the ceiling, neon lights filled windows, an orange wigwam straddled the floor and photographs of refugees stared out amongst pebbles thrown up from the sea.
