We begin in 1932 with Bavarian teenager Karl Beck, a farm boy who dreams of a different life. To win over his secret Nazi lover, Tristan, Karl moves to Berlin - what was then the gay capital of the world. Caught up in the romance, heartbreak, and jazz of Berlin's popular gay nightclub, Silhouette, Karl explores his repressed identity. But as the tides of history turn from freedom to fascism, Karl finds himself arrested by the infamous Oberführer Eicke for crimes of homosexuality, based on Paragraph 175. Sent to the new Dachau concentration camp run by Eicke himself, Karl struggles between psychological brainwashing and forbidden romance as one of the first "pink triangles."
