The female protagonist (named Kendra) is mad at her husband (the male protagonist who is named Scott) after finding out he slept with another woman before the events of the movie. She asks him questions like whether it felt good, and does he still love her in a threatening manner.

An adult male cop (named Paul) suggests that the son (named Jamal) who is missing (the son is a teenager) might be out on a date with his girlfriend. Paul then admits that it was what he would have been doing at that age.

Scott resists being arrested. He is pushed up against a window by two cops during this. No punches are thrown, and there is no blood.

A lieutenant cop (named John) shows the parents a recording of the incident their son was apart of. During the recording, gunshots are heard, and one of the people in the recording yells that someone was shot.

Fuck is said a few times in the movie, and nigga is said during a recording of an incident involving the protagonists' son. There are also numerous occasions of milder swear words that include dammit, hell, bitch, asshole, and shit.

Several racist slurs targeted towards blacks, whites, or both are said constantly by both protagonists to each other throughout the movie.

Smuggling illegal drugs for gangs is mentioned, and Paul asks the parents questions regarding whether their son is involved in this. He also asks whether Jamal does drugs himself. It's found out later in the movie that someone Jamal was with purchased marijuana right before the incident to smoke it, but Jamal doesn't want it.

Kendra wishes she can have some alcohol because of how stressed out she is, even though she rarely drinks. She remembers how her, and Scott first met at a friend's party at a bar that had some alcoholic drinks like champagne, and wine.

This entire movie is intense. It deals with the subject of racial discrimination.. Most of the movie involves characters shouting at each other, because they are either stressed out or angry.

The Ku Klux Klan is brought up in a scene, and is likely to upset viewers. Gangs, gang violence, police violence, racism towards blacks, and racism towards whites are also discussed.

An incident involving a couple's son (Jamal), and what happened to him is a major part of the movie. Both protagonists (a black mom named Kendra, and a white dad named Scott) are deeply concerned for his well-being. It's also heavily implied that, while they do love each other, they are racist towards each other as well. It's also implied that they both are anti-religion.
