YUMA, SONIC RIVER is a long feature documentary about the origins of Cumbia music, set alongside the banks of Colombia's main river, The Magdalena, guided by co-director Simon Mejía (a founding member of the worldwide known Latin-electro band Bomba Estereo). Looking for musicians who have preserved traditional cumbia songs on the river's bank, Simon finds himself navigating the Magdalena through an urgent environmental emergency: what was once one of the country's wildest river is now barely navigable. The film has a unique perspective combining musical discovery with environmental awareness. At the end, all musicians will create a memorable concert in Mompox, a picturesque village, where the music that keeps the Magdalena alive is celebrated.
