The Peace Between the Tribes

The Peace Between the Tribes tells of the nineteenth century making of peace between the Tlicho, and Yellowknife Dene of the Northwest Territories. The story takes place during a time of tribal war, and follows the historic Tlicho leader, Edzo, who travels across the region to negotiate peace with the Yellowknife Dene leader Akaitcho. This animated film emerged from an ongoing creative collaboration between elders and youth from the community of Behchoko, NWT, and filmmaker Adolfo Ruiz. A historical reenactment of the peace making event, involving Behchoko community members, served as the basis for the animated footage.
