One of the main characters brutally beats a German prisoner for carrying a flag, as well as another prisoner intervening.

Most of the prisoners are killed by exploding landmines which occur several times throughout the story. The circumstances include careless actions, booby traps, and suicide.

One such victim initially survives such a blast with his arms blown off and howling in agony. He is reported to have died at a military hospital.

A dog is killed by a land mine that the prisoners apparently missed on an officially cleared beach.

Many of the prisoners contract food poisoning from smuggled contaminated food and are vomiting continually. One such soldier vomits particularly violently while at work on the minefield and detonates a land mine.

One Danish officer says out loud to himself, "F*** Me". This shows up in the subtitles in English (if you have English subtitles on).

The sergeant frequently gets very angry and yells at the boys, he also slaps some of them.
